I've recently become very passionate about this cause. The organization's goal is to create awareness regarding the plight of the people of northern Uganda, caught in the midst of a civil war between the government and Joseph Kony's Lord's Resistance Army, a rebel group that makes extensive use of kidnapping children and making child soldiers.
Visit the
Invisible Children website to learn more about the cause and the ways in which you can get involved/donate/support.
This SATURDAY, APRIL 25TH there is an international Invisible Children event taking place. Myself, along with hundreds of others, will walk 3 miles from one event site to another, wait to be "rescued" by our chosen public/political figures, before walking back to our starting point at dawn. We are "abducting" ourselves for one night to symbolize the thousands of children in Uganda that are kidnapped and forced to fight in war. This is not only occurring in my city, or even my state. It's nation wide, so visit the official site to see which event site is closest to you.
Please, please take a minute to read up on this, guys! I really believe that it's important.
Best,
Linds
